Yesterday, I took part in Race for Life, something I have previously done but this year is different. This year is the first year men can join in too. So, to celebrate I participated alongside Matt’s family and between us there was three generations!
I was kindly invited to the VIP launch of Meadowhall’s new Post Room. A fully immersive pop-up experience located at Meadowhall for a limited time only until 19th May! What’s even better it is FREE! Don’t forget to upload your selfie to Twitter or Instagram. Make sure you use #MHPostRoom and @LoveMeadowhall to be in with a chance of winning a £250 Meadowhall gift card (Check Meadowhall website for T&C’s).
*I was kindly invited to Disco Bingo by Forum Bar and Kitchen in return for a review. Of course, all of my opinions are my own regardless of being invited to Disco Bingo. No payment was received, I wanted to review this as I already love this bar and want to support Sheffield companies. *
Disco Bingo. Bingo, Disco. Disco and Bingo. When I received the invite I couldn’t understand how Disco and Bingo went together and I was certainly intrigued to find out! Would it be disco songs that featured numbers and that’s how bingo was incorporated? The invite stated anything glittery or sequin was welcomed! I didn’t have anything on me like that but I sure will when I return! I recommend for 7:30 pm to get the table you like before it starts at 8 pm. Also, don’t worry this event takes place on the first Tuesday of every month so there is plenty of chance to try it for yourself. What’s even better is it is free! But, it’s worth getting your tickets early to avoid disappointment, as there is a limited amount. To book tickets click HERE.
What to expect from Disco Bingo
Before going, I just expected a game of bingo I didn’t really think the whole bar would be decked out like it was. The venue was decorated for the event and that made the atmosphere electric. From balloons, disco letter balloons to party poppers. There was also a DJ playing all those Disco hits from the start until the early hours of the morning. The DJ does not disappoint as a 1990’s baby myself, my biggest fear was not knowing any of the tunes. I was thinking it would be all night fever but I knew so many! To the point, my sister was slightly embarrassed at me singing along through out the night.
The event is hosted by Krissie who brings all the fun whilst, still keeping the feel of bingo with the puns when calling the numbers out. Now, don’t worry if you’re like me and struggle to hear the numbers are shown on the big screen on stage so you can both listen and watch. From the minute you walk in, there is a great atmosphere that makes the whole night. But, if you’re going to be a Debby downer then this is not the place for you! Once, you walk through those door you need to let go of all your inhibitions and have fun!
What is Disco Bingo?
Disco Bingo consists of 3 games. Don’t worry if you forget your bingo dabber, there are pens on the table so, if you’re forgetful like me Forum has got you covered. Each game you are competing to first get a line whether that’s horizontal, vertical or diagonal. Then two lines and finally a full house. If you reach any of the criteria you are invited up onto the stage to choose a balloon to pop and also share your best disco move. But, of course like any game of bingo when you have a line, two lines or house you have to shout…
Okay, normal bingo you only shout Bingo! But, this isn’t normal bingo this is Disco Bingo. Once, you shout you need to make your way to the stage to have your sheet checked. But, if there is more than one person to shout DISCO BINGO at the same time then it’s a race to see who can get there first. So, throw all your inabitions away and run as fast as you can to that stage! Then comes the big choice which letter balloon to pop. Will it be a great prize or a booby prize? With prizes ranging from drinks vouchers to free pizza slices and even inflatable pool accessories! There is a prize for everyone.
Food and Drink
Now, of course, it’s nice to have a little tipple alongside bingo. So, for all you students out there, drinks are 2-4-1 with a Student Pledge Card. I put some of the drinks to test, of course, I choose my signature alcoholic drink a porn star martini and it was just as good as I remember! Hence, I tested two just to make sure! My sister picked a strawberry lemonade mocktail which she loved!
Just when I thought it couldn’t get any better, pizza is also half price on a Tuesday until 10 pm. So, that works out around £2 if three people are sharing the 16-inch pizza. That’s a bargain if you ask me! Now, when I say pizza I mean PIZZZAAA properly made pizza from the Slice Bar which is stone baked. We opted for the Canadian bacon and maple syrup pizza. Now, you either read that and thought mmmm that sounds tasty or you’re the other person who thought eurgh that is revolting Brooke why would you eat that. But, I can promise you it was amazing, there is something about the sweet maple syrup with the Canadian bacon that is so wrong but tastes so right!
Did I win?
Now, the unlucky person I am didn’t win anything neither did my family. But, we had an amazing evening and as a family loved it. I will 100% be returning with my boyfriend and friends next month! The winners of this game though did win a 3 person pop-up tent! I was kind of jealous but the winner was celebrating their 18th birthday and was going away camping so I think they would of put the tent to great use.
